Healthy fats are called essential fatty acids (EFAs) me sing that they are required for life and can not be manufactured within the human body. The 2 widely accepted EFAs are linoleic and linolenic acids, which have their first double bonds on the third and sixth carbons of the molecule. This they are called omega 3 and omega 6 days. We need approximately 5 percent of our total calories to be EFAs. The standard American diet does not even reach this minimum.

EFAs are used for a wide array of cellular and bodily fluid functions, including their conversion into prostaglandins, which regulate your body's inflammatory response, strengthen cell walls and provide cellular energy, as well as enhance overall immune function.
